is a PC game in production since early 2024. It`s my own product, from start to finish, is a work of a small team, mostly my sefl and my wife. I created the concept, world, game mechanics, art, and code for the whole game.
The game was released on Steam on December 5 2025.
SU42: Hired Gun is a classic side-scroll shooter focused on more tactical gameplay.
Designed for solo play and Co-op.
Hired Guns is more tactical than a classic side shooter game. Each character has unique statistics and attacks. The whole concept of gameplay pivots around switching characters in a fight to utilize the maximum tactical advantages of specific character classes. Slow heavy gunner, fast medic, or sniper ect. The main goal of the game design was to create smooth and fun gameplay. Easy to read and understand, fast-paced game with tactics.
The world of planet Su-42 and mechanical invaders was designed using traditional arts to create old school arcade game style. But wrapped into a modern look and strong reading vision. Classic comics were a big part of my inspiration.
I used pens, markers and gouache paint. in some parts i used digital markers and digital over-paint.
Hand drawen characters are scanned and animated in Spine2D. Then exported into sprites to create old arcade visual effect
Hired guns is made on unreal engine. UE5 gives best combination of classic visuals and modern light effects. Also its relativly easy to code and expand game mechanics
